Cuore di Figlio

Cover artwork for Cuore di Figlio a book written by Piero Abbruzzese.

In the brief span of 18 years, Piero Abbruzzese, a pediatric heart surgeon, lived a journey of love and resilience with his adopted son, Carlo. Born with a fragile heart, Carlo’s life was a constant battle, unfolding across cities like Philadelphia, Paris, Bergamo, London, and Turin. Through countless operations and a heart transplant, Piero fought not just as a doctor, but as a father, witnessing Carlo’s courage and spirit. This journey, though filled with challenges, was a testament to the power of love, leaving Piero forever changed by the son who taught him the true meaning of strength and hope.

Piero is now a dear friend, but back in 2016, I didn’t know him that well, and I certainly had no idea about the incredible story he had poured into his book. So, when he asked me to come up with ideas for the cover, I knew it wouldn’t be easy to capture the essence of such a delicate and personal story, especially one involving Carlo. I read the draft, and I was deeply moved. It was a beautiful story, told with a raw sincerity and a level of emotion that never felt exagerated. I later realized that these qualities were a true reflection of who Piero is. When he saw the design he fell in love with it immediately.
